SYNOPSIS

50 years of Eurovision is a project led by Spanish TV to celebrate the 50 years of the cannel in Catalonia. It is a documentary series of 15 chapters, in which the most prominent directors of Catalan cinema show, from a subject, the evolution of Spanish society in the last 50 years. With this assignment, Albert Solé decided to focus on Eurovision Music Festival to discuss the Spanish relations with the rest of Europe and recall moments of anthology for the viewers of that time.

DIRECTOR'S COMMENTS

The first thing that attracted me to this project was the freedom of choice issue. Secondly, the possibility of returning to diving in the archives of TVE, a mysterious place full of hidden treasures. I've always had a soft spot for the Eurovision Song Contest. I love that kind of parallel diplomacy light music. Through the festival we discovered the name of unknown places of old Europe and especially learned to make conjectures about partnerships between European and old grudges from the result of voting. For years he was the only exit from European football and emigration. Overall, I chose the theme of Eurovision and politics as excuse to revel in unique moments of the Festival as the "higher Eh!"Betty Missiego or the constant blunders of Spain in the voting. And I have found many surprises. I think the evolution of the festival mood translates well that vague thing called Europe, which is full of "geeks" like Berlusconi or Le Pen, like the Eurovision Song Contest.
